This Month’s Focus: The Primary Suite

If the rest of your home is running on empty, chances are your bedroom is too. It’s easy to let your own space become the catch-all for piles, products, and “I’ll put it away later” items. This month, we're focusing on the primary suite. That includes your bedroom, closet, bathroom, and all the little spots in between.

Let’s make your room feel like a calm, uncluttered retreat. You deserve that.

Bedroom + Nightstand

Start small. What’s currently living on your nightstand? If you’ve got a lamp, a stack of books you haven’t touched in months, an empty water glass, hand lotion, and a pair of earbuds tangled in a phone charger...you’re not alone. Choose the things you actually use before bed or first thing in the morning. Everything else can find a better home (or hit the donation bin).

In the bedroom itself, think about what doesn’t belong. If you’ve got laundry baskets, Amazon boxes, or extra furniture crowding the space, it might be time to clear the decks and keep just what makes your space restful.

Clothing + Accessories

Now’s a good time to do a seasonal edit. You don’t have to pull everything out at once, but be honest about what you actually wear. Haven’t touched it in a year? Don’t love how it fits? It’s probably not worth keeping.

Keep accessories easy to find and grab. Drawer inserts, hooks, and simple bins can keep belts, bags, jewelry, and shoes from becoming a jumbled mess.

Shower, Tub + Bathroom Storage

Bathrooms tend to collect more products than we need. Check expiration dates on medications, makeup, and skincare. If it’s old, leaky, or hasn’t been used in months, toss it.

Make sure daily items are easy to reach, and less-used ones are tucked out of the way. Use drawer dividers or small bins under the sink to separate categories and avoid the dreaded bathroom avalanche every time you reach for something.

Skin Care, Hair Products + Medicine

We see this all the time: ten half-used shampoos, expired pain relievers, and three bottles of the same face serum. Keep what you use regularly and let the rest go.

If it helps, set a boundary like “Only what fits in this drawer or basket stays.” It gives you a natural limit and cuts down on clutter.

September Declutter Challenge

Clear out your nightstand. Remove everything. Wipe it down. Only put back what you use regularly. Toss trash, return out-of-place items, and relocate anything that belongs elsewhere. You’ll sleep better with less chaos next to your head.

Community Connection: Food Finders Food Bank

September is Hunger Action Month, and we’re highlighting the work of Food Finders in Lafayette. They’ve been fighting food insecurity in our community for decades. That includes food distribution, education, partnerships, and advocacy.

If you’re looking for a way to give back this fall, consider donating nonperishables, volunteering, or making a financial gift. Every bit helps. Learn more at www.food-finders.org
